Police pulled over a prohibited driver in Coquitlam, Friday, and also seized a cache of weapons.
The driver was stopped on the Trans-Canada Highway by an officer in a cruiser equipped with an automated licence plate reader.
The scanner alerted members of the new Prolific Prohibited Driver Team that the primary operator was prohibited from driving, so the vehicle was stopped and the driver arrested.
A search of the vehicle also produced a prohibited weapon – a butterfly knife – as well as a loaded handgun and other edged weapons, along with an inert grenade.
“We are cracking down on prohibited drivers because we believe they’re a danger every time they’re in control of a vehicle,” Insp. Mark Baxter said in a press release.
The investigation continues, with several charges anticipated.
